Westbrook Energy Center

Located in Westbrook, Maine, the Westbrook Energy Center uses two combustion turbines routed to two heat recovery steam generators, which provide steam to one steam turbine. This facility produces enough electric power to meet the needs of more than 500,000 homes throughout New England.

The Westbrook Energy Center was among the first of a new generation of power plants to sell competitively priced wholesale electricity into the region’s electric power grid.

The creation of this low-cost electricity will keep the area attractive to new business for years to come. Using highly efficient and environmentally friendly combined-cycle technology, the facility has one of the lowest permitted emissions value in the State of Maine. Also, the Westbrook Energy Center has done much to stimulate the local economy by being the largest taxpayer in the city.

In 2009, Westbrook was named a Star Worksite under the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The VPP Star certification is OSHA's highest level of recognition for outstanding efforts by an employer and its employees to achieve a level of excellence in occupational safety and health at their worksites.

ABOUT LIMINGTON LUMBER:

Limington Lumber Co. was founded in 1961 in Limington. The company purchased a mill site in East Baldwin in 1969. Limington Lumber company is located in the Saco River Valley in an area stretching from Fryeburg to Biddeford that has been known for its' quality White Pine for over 300 years.

Limington Lumber Company, a long standing member of Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NeLMA), produces over 14 million board feet of Eastern White Pine boards annually. We operate a band sawmill and planing mill, offering many different patterns. Our employee's expertise, combined with 9 state of the art dry kilns help ensure that we have the quality products that will meet your customer's needs.

In 1999, Limington Lumber co. embarked on a series of large expansions in order to offer its customers the best possible products, and to strengthen Limington Lumber's position as we entered the new millennium. The first phase was the installation of a PHL 36 bin sorter and gradeline in the sawmill. This project gave us more flexibility in our sorts and brought all of our employees inside. The second step was the installation of a PHL optimizer edger with Autolog controls. This piece of equipment not only improved yield, but also eliminated the most physically demanding position in the mill.

The upgrade of the Planer Mill came next with a whole new line surrounding a WACO Maxi Moulder. This new moulder allows us to produce the highest quality finish. The new line surrounding the WACO was setup to improve flow and give us more flexibility to easily absorb the increased production. We next installed a Verville 4 station bagging system with auto stapling to process the increase in shavings.

Limington Lumbers latest upgrade was completed in April of 2006 with the installation of a Hurst 250hp boiler system. This allowed us to begin using sawdust to generate heat for the dry kilns as well as the plant, which in turn allowed us to retire the 2 oil-fired boilers giving us better control of our heating costs going forward.
